HISTORY & FAITH
1879-PRESENT
Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church (JMBC) was established in Houston County in 1879, under the leadership of Rev. Davis. The church started in a bush harbor and then God blessed the small congregation to build a wood building which served as a school and a church for our ancestors. The bush harbor of 1879 is an important part of its story—a tangible reminder of where the journey began and how God’s grace sustained the congregation through its earliest days. In August 2017, Dr. Christopher S. West was called to lead JMBC.

Rev. Kelson Brooks
Rev. Robert Brooks established the Youth Department and the Gospel Choir. He passed away after 39 years of faithful service.
Rev. Kelson Brooks was called to pastor in 1998. He served for 18 years dedication and love. The renovations were completed, the Shepard Boys Male choir and the Crusaders were established under his leadership.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
THE HOLY BIBLE
We believe the Bible is the inspired and true Word of God. It teaches us how to live, love, and follow Christ.
GOD THE FATHER. GOD THE SON. GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT.
We believe in one God—revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is our Creator, Jesus is our Savior, and the Holy Spirit is our Comforter and Guide.
SALVATION BY GRACE
We believe that salvation is a free gift from God, received through faith in Jesus Christ. It is not earned by our works, but given by God's grace.
WATER BAPTISM
We practice baptism by full immersion after someone has made a personal decision to follow Christ. Baptism is a public sign of repentance and a changed heart.
THE LORD'S SUPPER
We observe the Lord’s Supper to remember Jesus’ sacrifice. It is a sacred time of reflection, unity, and gratitude.
THE CHURCH
We believe the church is the body of Christ. Every believer has a part to play, and each local church is led by Christ as its head. We are called to go everywhere preaching the gospel, making disciples, loving one another as Christ loved us.
CHRISTIAN LIVING
We believe in living holy and purposeful lives—showing love, seeking justice, and walking humbly with God.
THE SECOND COMING
We believe Jesus Christ will return one day. Until then, we live in hope and serve with urgency.
